SOLD - 1998 BMW R1100R with ARMEC Sidecar - $10,000
Have you ever seen an articulated side hack? This bike leans! The motorbike is a 1998 BMW R1100R 75th Anniversary edition in classic pinstriped black with spoked wheels, and the sidecar has matching stripes and decals. It is nearly all stock, in solid running and riding condition, and has a Throttlemeister. I have some maintenance records from the last ten years showing regular basic services and a few repairs, but not a complete CV. It has a clean and clear Washington title.
The car is from Armec, a Swedish manufacturer that builds these specialized articulated hacks for very specific motorbikes. A quick Google search will put you on their hilarious 90s-era web site. It is an extremely high quality build, the frame is super stout and the design is simple, smart, and clean. It attaches to the bottom of the moto using two large heim joints that the bike can pivot on, and it only takes a few minutes to detach the whole car, including the dry-break hydraulic brake hose and weatherproof electrical connector. The wheel on the car is aluminum with a hydraulic drum brake activated by the front moto brake and has a parking brake handle! It's fiberglass shell is extremely thick and stout and there are storage areas behind the seat back and on the left side. It also comes with a little chrome luggage rack that attaches to the roll hoop, but we decided it was hideous and took it off.
The R1100R has a set of OEM BMW hard cases, keyed to the ignition. The left case is from an RT model that came with a lowered muffler and full size case. The muffler and bag mount have been customized on this moto so it does not have a half-sized left bag due to the muffler location. OEM BMW tank bag included as well. The car is so well thought out there is a stop on the frame so that you can lay the bike on it's right side cylinder head and the saddlebag will not touch the car body - truly terrific design!
At 60k miles, the R1100R is running and riding well. The motor pulls hard and it stops straight and smooth. The muffler leaks a little at the end caps; we pulled it apart and repacked the can, and it's better, but not perfect. The heated hand grips work but are weak as is typical at this age. Everything else is in good shape as this machine has clearly always been garaged. There are photos of the bike disassembled which we did for detailing purposes. This machine was professionally detailed while in pieces, right down to steaming the frame and, suspension, and wheels while off the bike. All paint was carefully polished while off the bike. Again, at 20+ years and 60k old, nothing is perfect but it is darn clean.
We have lots of experience with long distance transactions and can provide any photos or video you might need and can help with shipping if necessary. We can deliver for additional cost to the Seattle, SF Bay, or Boise areas. Otherwise, we have a pro shipping company that we use regularly.
Clean and clear title ready to go with about ten years of service records. We are a licensed and insured Oregon vehicle dealer and there are NO additional dealer fees beyond DMV title and license for Oregon buyers. Not interested in trades at this time unless you have some really, really cool German hardware wearing Roundels. Cash, bank transfer, or cashier's check only please.
If you are a Boxer enthusiast, this moto will not disappoint, and there is always enough eye candy at the shop to justify a visit.
